What is Sugar Grouping?
Canada labeling regulations require that all sugars-based ingredients be grouped in parentheses after "sugars" in the ingredient list. Sugars-based ingredients include table sugar, maple syrup, fruit juice concentrate, among others.
For the Ingredient Declaration to accurately group the sugars, NutriCalc must first know which ingredients are sugars-based.
To indicate that the ingredient is sugars-based:
- Open the ingredient and click Details.
- On the Ingredient Classifications card, check Group with Sugars.
- Remember to click save.
Note: The ingredient declaration displays the ingredients selected for the specific labeling name and merge any sugars-based ingredients with the same labeling name.
To view and modify the ingredient declaration:
- Open the recipe that contains one or more sugars-based ingredients.
- Select Reports.
- Click the Ingredient Declaration and QUID card.
- Select Canada for the region.
- The sugars-based ingredients will be grouped after Sugars, listed by weight.
